To bring funk to your garden you need to look at objects as if they did not have an original intended use. Or, perhaps a better way to state that is to say you should put whatever the intended use of a piece far from your thoughts in order to give it a new purpose. Take for example containers, to simply race out and buy actual plant containers will not render you a funky garden, it might be nicely balanced, and well matched, but lacking funk indeed.

So what would make for funky housing and holders of outdoor plants? Why bike baskets, bird baths, claw footed bathtubs, and confectioners cooking cauldrons are a great start. You can find great groovy items such as these at village markets, reclamation yards and anyplace else people are hoping you will see treasure in what has become basically trash to them.

To keep the garden from looking like a collection of broken down, unloved articles create a paint palette. The objects will be refreshed by a coat of butter cream yellow, flamboyant fuchsia, or a pairing of dynamic paint colors. Take it to the limit, and enjoy your artistic creations for years to come.

While we still love personalised garden gate signs, we want to bring your attention to the fact that you can branch out, garden joke there, with other personalised items as well. Take for example the personalised garden marker, which draws attention to a particular space and can either indicate the type of tree, a favourite quote, or the memory of someone who has passed. In addition, this would not only be a welcomed accent in one’s own garden space but would make a fantastic wedding, housewarming, anniversary, or memorial gift.

If you are looking for a whimsical gift to give the gardener in your life for holidays then we think a “Garden of the Month” yard stake is super-duper. A bit cheeky to put up oneself, but worth the laugh that goes along with the spirit of it. But you know us, we love that stuff.

Otherwise, if you are looking for something a little more inspired, we like the “To plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow” or if you are seeking light hearted humour “Grow dammit!” All will be appreciated so have some fun with your selection.

Funky bar stools are ideal for those who wish to step outside of the norm, and create an identity unique to other homes. While traditional bar stools are capable of making an impact among family and visitors alike, it is the funky ones, which give the home character and can serve as an interesting focal point, when placed in a prominent place either the living room, bedroom or dining space. Interior design has since developed to include a plethora of choices for those who simply cannot resist the appeal of an intriguingly designed bar stool.

Some of the essential features, which must be covered, include the finish of the bar stool frame. A chrome plated steel frame is sleek, glossy and helps to modernise a home. However, some funky bar stools come in brushed steel, which has understated charm. They usually encompass a supportive footrest, which adds to the comfort that the owner feels when seated, and within this, is found the gas lift mechanism. The mechanism enables the stool to be raised and lowered as required, as well as giving the owner the freedom to swivel 360-degrees, so its splendour can be seen from any angle of the room. For those who prefer them, there are fixed height stools available, which are equally sturdy and stylish.

After this, a potential consumer may look into the design of the seat. Some seats feature a wide and accommodating backrest, which aims to look after the owner, when seated. Others have armrests, which enhance the comfort, or even both for ultimate care when seated. As the seat is so central to the design of the stool, interior designers have now produced funky bar stools, which cater to a greater audience.

Funky bar stools have seats, which are covered in smooth faux leather. They can be easily cleaned for regular use around the home. Encased within is a ample supply of high-density cushioning, which adheres to the unique shape of the owner when seated. For those with a generous budget, there are stools, which come wrapped in luxurious real leather, even with wooden frames, some with small openings, which allow light to surge through, illustrating the evolution of 21st Century interior design. They also come in a vast array of colours; for bright and bold statements, consumers may go for reds, yellows and purples. Gentler, calmer colours such as cream, white and lilac are very subtle and blend in effortlessly with its surroundings, as well as complimenting existing pieces of furniture within the home.

There is no doubting the appeal of funky stools, with their ability to astound any onlooker as well as becoming a family favourite in the home. They are an inspiring asset and may well just persuade a visitor to your home, to have one too. No matter your style, introducing a funky bar stool to your living space is such a marvellous way of unleashing the potential that your home is dying to give!

As you all know I am obsessed with home furnishings, and the funkier the better. Home contents are my business, and my passion. I am one of those lucky blokes that actually enjoys his work. However, my responsibility to clients does not rest with finding them the items they want, but carries past that. Additionally, I talk about home insurance. I tell them about how vital it is that they obtain contents insurance to cover all of their goodies. I can recommend that they get home insurance quotes from Direct Line home insurance because I personally know with that company you can get up to 50,000 pounds worth of contents insurance as standard.

In my opinion, there can be no excuses for not safeguarding such investments. Personally, if I am going to go through all of the trouble of locating a new chair, or table for my abode then I want to know my time, effort, and interests are protected. And while a client is still reeling over the excitement of furnishing their place, it is no time for them to be lax in insurance. Otherwise, it can easily fall into a category of things they just never got around to doing, and as we all know bad things can happen.

Nope, I do not stop there either. Next, I explain how when I add a new lounger, or armoire to my personal home collection I also amend my insurance contents list. It is just one more thing we should do to keep our records concise, and everything clear. Plus, it only takes a few minutes, and as I already did the more extensive job of making the original list, it makes good sense.

There are two more additional steps that I take, and advise everyone else to do too. First, I take photos of all of my big ticket items, and if I am being truly diligent some of the lesser also. This substantiates the list, and those receipts that belong to the items. Let’s face it, should you have an incident in your home where you belongings are damaged, or removed your mind will be a blur, but these materials will aid you to recall all that has been lost, and that is as it should be.

Finally, I jot down, and photograph any vin numbers, codes or even signatures that are located on my belongings. For if they are stolen, there is a chance of them being retrieved, and I want to darn well be sure I can show proof that they are mine. Let nothing stand in the way of me being reunited with my stuff. And there you have it, from one homeowner to another. I have no doubt that my belongings are worth it, and imagine yours are too.

With technology moving forward faster than we can recognise the advancements, many things in our everyday lives are changing. With the introduction of the electronic readers, printed books are likely to become works of art within our lifetimes. This for me makes the dream of a library increasingly attractive. However, without a room that I can dedicate to my love of words, and verse bound between decorative covers, I will resort to a library wall.

The idea is to purchase lovely bookcases and to cover a wall from floor to ceiling with them. Thus, my wall art will be the books house in beautiful confines. And even though I do own, and use a Kindle, it took me nearly a full year to operate it regularly. This evidences my partiality to the physical book, over the modern day “upgrades”. Although I have always adored the appearance of real books, I recognise that they will transition into a thing of the past, but in that they will become even more beautiful. Thus, my collection will please me as we grow old and “classic” together.

So you have furniture from an era gone by, and would prefer to have something more updated, then get painting partner. Lots of us have acquired pieces of furniture that came from our well meaning relatives, or friends. And at one point in time we were probably pretty darn excited to have a chair to sit on, or a table to eat from, but time passes and the pleasure fades. Then you are left disgruntled with what was once a saving grace, and is now just lacking grace in your opinion.

To convert something like a wingback chair from something you would find in a grandparents home, give it a new persona. One quick way to give such an item a face lift is to paint the legs with a glossy enamel paint in a vibrant unexpected colour. To accentuate this, place a coordinating throw pillow on the chair. All of a sudden a stodgy old chair is a modern masterpiece that oozes personality and style. Top choice colours will of course weigh heavily upon what the fabric colour is, but be brave, it will pay off.

One of the most important issues when it comes to choosing home insurance policy is the size of the premiums – after all no one wants to pay more than they have to. However, what people really should be looking for is the most cost effective policy overall, which means the one with the most comprehensive home and contents coverage for the lowest possible price; something that can be more of a challenge to locate. It is possible to find this and there are a number of dos and don’ts that can help when it comes to finding and selecting the right policy for you.

One of the first things you should do is to look for an online price comparison site that will allow you to look and compare a number of insurance providers and their offers. Do not just go for the first available offer you can find, even from a reputable company. Another thing you should always do when choosing you policy is to speak directly to an insurance agent in order to make sure that your policy is fitted to your particular needs – but don’t have important areas of coverage removed from the policy, even though such clauses will lower the rate of your premium! However, one thing you should always do is find out about any discounts available when you speak to the insurance agent. It is likely that he will inform you of any that are appropriate, but if not, make sure to enquire.

Once you have your home insurance policy, there are also some things you should and should not do. Firstly, you should make sure to keep your policy up to date by renewing it when required, as it can be easy to put this off and then find that you need it. Do not abandon the policy if your mortgage lender no longer requires it, as this alone is not a good enough reason not to be covered.

There are so many remarkable ways to create walls of interest these days, and this is to be expected considering how many resources are available. However, I have been compiling a timeline of sorts on the progression of funky walls throughout the last century, and been taken aback by the forward thinking designs of the past. What surprises me is that as I research the new and up and coming wall textures, wallpapers and hand painted displays I am surprised by some of the techniques I come across that were used in the distant past. Along with this have come some rather inspired pairings of sofas, rugs and other furnishings with these decorated walls. Fabrics with lively, or striking patterns placed in rooms with grand scale murals catch me off guard, and while I would not expect to, I like it a lot.

Mostly, as I have moved forward through this journey of mine to track the evolution of wall decorations during the last one hundred years, I have become increasingly interested in how many of the ideas of our predecessors have cropped up in modern day designs. I know as an artist myself, I like the idea of creating things that I believe to be totally unique, but that it is not altogether uncommon to find that someone has beaten me to the punch. Even when working without any specific guideline, time period, or inspiration, one can find that what they conjured up from their own actions, existed already in one form or another.

This of course leads me to question whether I have been influenced by things I have observed, but simply been unaware of it? Or is it that there are just so many different variations that can be concocted before pieces are replicated to some extent? Which brings me to wonder how much I will be affected by the curious mixtures I have now viewed of furniture with highly decorated walls throughout the years of my research. Will I yearn to put tufted brown leather sofas in a room where I would have previously not thought to, but hesitate because I feel I am copying the artistic eye of another who came before me? And does it matter if I choose to imitate, because are we all constantly replicating even when we are unaware of it? It is a thought-provoking subject, when is design truly original and when has it been influenced? Yes, somewhat difficult to wrap one’s head around, but still stimulating conversation nonetheless.

It used to be that the laundry room would often become the place for all the stuff that did not have a specified home. It was where things that did not fit elsewhere would end up. Or things that were unsightly, or that you simply wanted out of view would gravitate.

Nowadays, people are intentionally designing their laundry rooms for dual purposes. So, it is the actual designated spot for recycling, craftmaking, indoor gardening, shoe maintenance, and so very much more. This means the way the space looks and functions is important, sound should be limited, storage should be in abundance, and the appearance is now more important than ever.

Therefore, while flooring in the laundry room, much like a garage, used to be bottom of the barrel, it is not anymore. Not only does it need to be easy to clean and nice to look at, it should be slip-proof and safe too. Because no matter how high-end your washer might be, there is always the chance of an overflow, whether it be a technical issue, or the fault of the operator.

One other thing to think about, if you go with tile, is that a dark grout might make your life a lot easier than a light one. If you are not a fan of dark grout, then consider larger tiles, as this will require less grout.

As summer slips away, and a chill begins to circulate through the air, a funky fire pit might be the perfect addition to your outdoor space. In fact, it could be what allows you to enjoy the great outdoors for longer than you ever have been able to before. Other than that huge benefit, we love the fire pit for another reason, it is a fantastic compromise for those unwilling, or unable to commit to a full fledged outdoor fireplace.

Fire pits are gaining in popularity, and as such more and more of those great inspiration photos are cropping up with them included. You know the ones that show the envious culmination of a professional designers work, and make you want to take out a small loan if you have to in order to have a similar space of your own.

But, you need not do that, just take note of how those designers created a cosy, inviting area. What you are bound to identify is that the fire will become a stunning feature all on its own, so place your seating in an arrangement that allows for all those in attendance to bask in its glow, oh and of course warmth.
